Paris Wilson charged with the Trans Panic murder of transgender woman Islan Nettles walks free

On the eve of the TDOR Paris Wilson walked out of court a free man. Wilson was charged with misdemeanor assault in connection with brutal beating death of NYC transgender woman Islan Nettles.

After Islan died in the hospital it was fully expected that the charges against Wilson would be elevated and prosecuted as a hate crime.

It was wittnesed  that Wilson made a pass at Ms. Nettles and became enraged, beating her to death in a fit of trans panic.

The time ran out for the prosecutors after the "speedy trial clock" 90 day limit expired on Tuesday.

Another unnamed man confessed to the murder but said he was too drunk to remember doing it. That man was allegedly taken to the police station by the mother of Paris Wilson who pressured him to make a false confession. That individual was not arrested because of inaccuracies in his confession.

"Emotions were flying all over. Happy, sad, more upset than anything," said grief-stricken Delores Nettles Islan's mother. "And then to see him walking out. And my baby can't come home."

Members of the transgendered community were present in court to support the Nettles family.

Judge Tamiko Amaker adjourned the case to Nov. 19.

We can continue reminding Assistant District Attorney Nicholas Viorst with the care2 petition Justice for Islan Nettles that our lives matter.

Twerking ends on Glee with a deal that allows major LGB groups to avoid real trans advocacy #JD4PJI

If only I were a boy
Source: Celebrity Cafe  "Twerking has taken over McKinley High, especially in the Glee Club. Naturally, this doesn't sit well with Sue (the guidance counselor), who takes on the epidemic and tries to get it banned (of course, she is unsuccessful, as Will makes a convincing case to the school board in its favor). Will also rebels against her by singing 'Blurred Lines.'"

"Meanwhile, Unique is having a hard time using the bathroom at school because being Transgender makes it hard to use the bathroom. She isn't welcome in the girl's room, but gets bullied in the boy's room. After singing "If I Were a Boy," Unique makes a plea for a Unisex bathroom - Sue uses this as her way to end twerking by installing a port-a-potty in the choir room. Because this is still insulting, Schu allows Unique to use the faculty bathroom, then makes a final deal with Sue. If Unique can have a key to the faculty bathroom, he will stop the Glee Club's twerking. They close the show with their performance of "On Our Way."

This is a totally unrealistic 'solution'. First off, every trans person knows using a segregated restroom only serves to further ostracize them. Avoiding that as a 'solutions' is critical to our integration. Secondly, its not hard for trans people to use the bathroom unless they have a medical condition. It's societal misconceptions partially spawned by this episodes bathroom 'solution'.

Finally how amicable is a solution in which Unique will be remembered as the one to blame for the banning of twerking or extending that, cisgender sexual interactions. I appreciate GLEE producers integrating trans characters but please do it in a way that not further misconceptions.

Most importanly why are the major LGBT noT supporting Cristan Williams protest at the Pacific Justice Institute?

They told Cristans the protest "off Message". Thats a crock of shit. This episode is off message but promote it they will from there armchair safe offices. If the Trans Law Center and Equality California want to make a real impact they would be helping to get the word out.

Miss Universe Gabriela Isler on transgender contestants They should get their own pageant because this ones for woman"

Gabriela Isler is delightful, gorgeous and a transgender exclusionary bigoted cisgender woman. Isler made it known she does not think whats good for the goose is also good for the transgender

Is any less real after surgery
who gets to decide?
photo: Quemas.mamas latinas.com

I disagree. Whats good for the transgender is good for the gander and so does RED LGBT Venezuela.

During the interview it was observed that the crown fell off her at first. Isler explained the person crowning her was petite and at that moment the crown didn't fit her "It's mine and it was made for me and fits me (sic) very well".

I question whether that crown would have been such a perfect fit antes.

Giselle Castro at Quemas Mama Latinas notes that "I personally believe there's nothing wrong with getting a little plastic surgery here and there if a person decides they need it. In Isler's case, it's hard to deny that she looks like a completely different person in her after picture!"

A completely different person.

Gabriela said she claimed this victory for 'all people of Venezuela' further excluding transgender Venezuelans who she doesn't believe are real people.

Tullytown PA police did this to a 14 year old?

Accounts differ about what transpired but somehow this fourteen year old's nose was broken and got both eyes damaged. The burn marks on his face are from being tasered which according to the only news report I could find happened while running from police handcuffed behind his back. Supposedly the police became 'worried' for his safety as he approached RT13 and tasered him. Did they then beat him? His mother said they wouldn't let her see him for three days after this happened.

His mother posted this on facebook:

Victory for Texas Trans tux wearing teen. His picture will appear in his yearbook after all

as reported earlier on planetransgender Jeydon had been
told is picture did no meet 'community standards'.
This is a victory for all Texans.

Source: The SPLC (and an outraged LGBT community) took action to protect a transgender teen’s rights, the La Feria Independent School District in Texas has agreed to allow his tuxedo photo to appear in the yearbook along with the other students in his class.

The decision came two days after the SPLC demanded the school district allow Jeydon Loredo, a transgender student and senior at La Feria High School, to appear in his high school yearbook wearing a tuxedo or risk a federal lawsuit against the school district. Before today's decision, Jeydon had been told the photo would not appear in the yearbook due to “community standards.”

“We are very pleased that the school district has recognized Jeydon for who he is – and treated him with the respect he deserves,” said Alesdair Ittelson, an SPLC staff attorney. “This is a signal to other school districts that transgender students should be included as important members of their communities rather than ostracized and subjected to discrimination. We applaud Jeydon’s courage in standing up for his rights.”

Attorneys for the school district agreed to provide written confirmation that Jeydon’s tuxedo photo will appear in the yearbook along with the other students in his class. The district also agreed to follow its own corrective policies for cases of gender discrimination and provide training for those involved, along with a comprehensive education program for the school community. The district will also expressly include gender expression in its ant-discrimination policies.

Judgment day for PJI: Protest Tuesday against group targeting trans kids

Are you sick of the lies being told by the "Pacific Justice Institute"  about  the Colorado transgender high school student "Jane Doe"?

Well, you're lucky you're just sick.

The hateful unsubstantiated disproven rhetoric by the Santa Anna California lawyers targeting this trans kid in Colorado have destroyed her life and pushed Jane to the brink of self harm.

These untruths and lies have made all the news networks both right wing and main stream, front pages hoping to capitalize on the controversy vulnerability of this one child.

Why would a law abiding innocent high school student be ruthlessly attacked time and again by the PJI? Its he only way the smug heartless lawyers at PJI had to conjure fear and contempt in the hearts of California voters as they collected signatures to force a referendum of AB 1266, the newly enacted law giving all school children, including trans kids, an equal opportunity to succeed.

So why did they pick on this kid so far away?

There has never been a instance of a transgender student acting inappropriately in all of school districts in California that have previously instituted like policy.

One California hate group tried to start a rumor there was a instance of bullying by a transgender student in a LA school but that was exposed as a lie by school officials.. Just like the Colorado school district officials did.

Are you you in the greater Los Angles area and want to make a stand for equality? Join Cristan Willams of the TransAdvocate on Tuesday. And if the Lawyers from the PJI come out of their offices and face judgement? Outspoken articulate crusader Cristan Williams can handle it.

Update: Major LGBT groups are not supporting this protest. They say its "Off Message"

PCC publishes transgender inclusive guidelines in response to TERF Julie Burchill telling 'Transsexuals should cut it out'."

The Guardian published Julie Burchill's trans toxic tirade in response to the slightly less offensive article Seeing red: the power of female anger but then deleted it after the experiencing the international transgender community outrage.

But that fact does not exonerate the Guardian nor does cries for freedom of speech or ignorance excuse the publishing of Burchills article in the first place.

The new transgender inclusive guidance from the PCC makes it clear, TERF Julie Burchill article was indeed hate speech by UK standards.

Protection from discrimination
Under the terms of Clause 12 (Discrimination), (i) "the press must avoid prejudicial or pejorative reference to an individual's race, colour, religion, gender, sexual orientation or to any physical or mental illness or disability". In addition, part (ii) makes clear that "details of an individual's race, colour, religion, sexual orientation, physical or mental illness or disability must be avoided unless genuinely relevant to the story". While the Commission does not regard transgender status or gender dysphoria as constituting an "illness or disability", it does consider that the terms of Clause 12 - parts (i) and (ii) - encompass transgender status and gender dysphoria.

Editors should consider carefully the language they employ to refer to individuals of transgender status, taking care to ensure that it is not pejorative or discriminatory. PCC staff members are available to provide Code advice on this issue, including guidance on previous rulings. Groups with expertise in this area have produced specialist guidance for journalists and are available to advise on individual cases (see below), although it is important to note that there is a range of views within the community on terminology issues.

Editors should also be aware of the issue of relevance. It may be useful to assess whether a story would be considered newsworthy if it did not concern an individual of transgender status, and if so, whether the individual's status is genuinely relevant.

its encouraging that the Guardian Published the PCC update thereby acknowledging their responsibility. Now, lets see if the UK's notoriously irresponsible media lives up to there responsibilities as well.

Skirts for Sasha draws hundreds in skirts in Oakland march of support

Sarah Hoffman reminds us a march was held in Oakland last night for Sasha who identifies as A Gender.

Sasha's skirt was set on fire by Richard Thomas after falling asleep on on a city bus on the way home.

16 year old Thomas was charged as an adult with this hate crime after telling police he did because he was homophobic. The crime was also caught on surveillance video but police haven't released it saying its too disturbing.

Tux wearing Texas transgender Teen Jeydon Loredo told his yearbook photo violated "Community Standards"

"When I found out about this I almost didn't want to take it" Jeydon told Action 4 news meaning the picture but his sentiment could mean, and has meant so much more to other trans youth facing discrimination from schools.
The Burnt Orange Reports that the Southern Law Center (SPLC) will take legal action by November 21'st if Jeydons picture is not in the yearbook.

Being a transgender Texan only a few miles away I find this sort of discrimination appalling. Texans are better than that and we know it.

Both HRC and the Southern Law Center have become involved asking the school board to respect Jeydon but in the correspondence form the Board the continued to misgender Jeydon and use his birth name.

The SPLC's demand letter describes how refusing to include the photograph violates the student’s freedom of expression, which is protected by the First Amendment. It also violates the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment, which protects the student from discrimination, as well as Title IX, which bars discrimination on the basis of sex by any education program receiving federal money. Refusing to publish the photograph would even violate the school district’s own anti-discrimination policies.

Call it out: Yearbooks are for memories not discrimination!

The theme for La Feria High School's yearbook shouldn’t be discrimination.
But officials at the Texas school want to stop Jeydon Loredo, a male student, from being featured in the yearbook wearing his tuxedo like every other boy, simply because he’s transgender.
This kind of discrimination isn't just wrong - it's in direct violation of federal law and the school's very own policies.
The issue has been appealed to the school board with the help of our partners in this effort, the Southern Poverty Law Center. Jeydon’s family has asked equality supporters like you to help ensure that Jeydon can appear in the school’s yearbook wearing his tuxedo.
Tell the La Feria School Board to take decisive and clear action: Let Jeydon’s tuxedo photo appear in the yearbook alongside his friends and classmates. Discrimination against transgender students is a violation of school values.

Caught on Cell Video Transgender girl attacked by mob at Hercules High School

Law enforcement and school officials are investigating a fight the occurred Wednesday at the school as a possible hate crime. According to faculty a group of cisgender students have been harassing the trans girl for some time and had received a warning to stop just days before the attack.

ABC 7 reports "School officials say the transgender student initiated the physical contact, but only after she was verbally assaulted."

"After being under stressful situations day after day of being teased and talked about, obviously at some point you're going to explode," said Charles Ramsey with the West Contra Costa School Board.

"The transgender student complained to school administrators about being bullied just two days ago and a warning was given to the other students involved."

"They were told knock it off and then something transpired yesterday afternoon," Adam Taylor with the West Contra Costa School District told ABC 7 news.

Watch Melissa Harris-Perry video tribute to the NCTE

Source NCTE "On November 12, 2013, the National Center for Transgender Equality honored Melissa Harris-Perry with the Media Momentum Award in recognition of her show's groundbreaking work covering transgender issues and including transgender voices. Though she could not be there to accept the award in person, she shared this video with NCTE to express her gratitude. Watch what she has to say about getting our stories right."

Call me Stephen! Meet the high school coach who just came out as transgender

Stephen Alexander is amazing. Born into the wrong body Stephen grew up in a small Conservative Rhode Island town denying his true gender. It wasn't just scary he told Out Sports the prospect of telling his family terrified him.

So he moved to New York city and spent some time learning about himself without constraints and came home one day and declared he wanted his family to call him Stephen. A truly wonderful story of fulfillment and acceptance.

Watch Denver Wrangler protesters explain their grievances. So why is gay media still silent?

A very diverse group of LGBT people and allies met Sunday afternoon in front of a bear gay bar called "The Denver Wrangler" to bring attention to their denying entrance to Vito John Marzano, a regular patron who happened to be in drag that day after performing at a nearby fundraiser.

The bar contends they denied him entrance because his ID did not match him visually while simultaneously telling him he wasn't transgender de facto acknowledging that his ID matched.

The law ( para 47-912) requires places that offer alcoholic beverages to insure patrons are of legal age which was accomplished when the staff recognized Vito after he took off his wig. Vito's video of the encounter shows that the management denied him access to public accommodations because of his gender expression in violation of Colorado civil rights law.

Update: Gay media responds in force. List of article published by gay bloggers since this was posted at the bottom of the page.

I asked feminist Yvonne Wright why she was protesting she told me  "What disturbs me the most about this is the opposition from people within our community. If we don't stand together as a community - GLBT - we will never get anywhere. To hear gay men say things like "let them go to their own bars," is reminiscent of the times whites said let black go to their own bars. It is one thing to cater to a specific clientele. It is another to deny entrance or service because you are not a member of that clientele. When you are a public establishment, in Colorado you are required by law to treat everyone the same regardless of race, religion, sex, gender identification or sexual orientation."

More about the sign that shouts transmisogyny over gay media's silence, after the video.

Now about the gay supremacist trans-eraser sign....

Ms. Wright posted this on facebook:

I just e-mailed this to "Out Front."

"One of your regular columnists, Brent Heinze, is outside The Denver Wrangler during tonight's protest with a sign that says "support gay marriage, not drag queens at beer busts." I am just curious if you are covering this event and, if so, if you have seen this. I cannot understand why Denver's leading publication for GLBT issues would allow such a man to be a contributing columnist. It is also my sincere hope, as a legitimate journalist myself, that you are covering this protest. I am an Emmy award winning journalist who has covered stories through-out the world, has worked as both a reporter and an editor, and can say with confidence that this is a significant news event in our community. It has become loud and divisive. The whole issue of gender identity when being used to ID someone at a bar and excluding them and/or women from beer busts is one worth examining (especially since it is illegal and violates the very anti-discrimination codes intended to protect us - an oppressed minority). I realize a lot of people support The Denver Wrangler. I realize the bar contributes to a lot of events in our community. But, I hope you ARE a legitimate source of news and information for our community and, therefore, willing to cover sensitive issues that effect us all. Even more, I hope that you do not allow this man who is publicly spewing hate and discrimination to continue to be a part of your publication."
Thank you, Yvonne Wright

Brent Heinze posted this "apology" on a facebook group called "Exile Fetish Balls"

"I want to express my sincere apology to those who I hurt through my statement during the Wrangler protest on Sunday. By no means was my sign that read, “fight for gay marriage not drag queens at beer bust,” meant to show aggression, intolerance, or non-acceptance to anyone that expresses themselves how they want. It was intended to express my perspective about the fact that some in our community focus on being extremely negative and their energies could also be put towards larger inequities locally. Again, it was not meant to be construed to be hateful towards people expressing individualized gender expression or that they deserve to be discriminated against. I apologize for this having those undercurrents.

I’m trying to work with a few people to see what can be done in the future to have more conversations and see where it goes. I appreciate those who have taken the time to talk and email me about their concerns and frustrations instead of just throwing me under the bus or writing me off. I’m hopeful that through this combative situation some good can come out of this. I’m looking optimistically towards the future."

Hieinze's sign was not a fux pa as he would like to pass it off as.

It clearly frames the issue as nothing else could have. As the video shows, people who were protesting were thoughtful, positive and sensitive. People who belong to the boycott page who were at the protest said were very encouraged by the reactions of Wranglers patrons with whom they interacted with.

The Protest page is and open group so anyone can post. One gay man in a thread since removed by the page admin called us "Twats" and told us to STFU. That sort of behaviour was seen time and again on other threads removed by the group admin.

Objecting to discrimination isn't "slanderous". The Wrangler is touting this letter by local group after members said they went "incognito' to the beer bust and found no discrimination.

Pink Panther LGBT summarily bans Wrangler dissension on Facebook. Will they ban you too?

In fact the only ones being intolerant is the Denver Wrangler staff. They have tried there best to silence the transgender media with intimidation and even threatened Vito with a lawsuit.

Another fact.  The Denver Wrangler has been very intent on cleansing the Internet of evidence, first getting favebook to censor articles about the incident, getting you tube to violate the video and by pressuring myself and the TransAdvocate to take our posts down.

I wanted a cisgender feminist perspective about the Brent Heinze appology so I asked Ms. Wright to comment on it:
His apology was not an apology. Instead of saying "I'm sorry for what I did," he said "I'm sorry if I hurt anyone because of what I did." This is what Heinze said in his apology about the sign, "It was intended to express my perspective about the fact that some in our community focus on being extremely negative and their energies could also be put towards larger inequities locally." This basically reiterated what he said the night before. So what if there are "bigger issues" in his mind. Who decides what is big and what is small? If you're gay and you want to marry, Equal Marriage is a big issue. If you're trans and you are turned down entrance to a bar and embarrassed in front of your friends, that's a big issue. One case doesn't detract from the other. We can all work on many issues simultaneously. Even the U.S. Congress is able to do so by considering both equal marriage and equal treatment in the workplace. One issue doesn't negate or over-ride another. Furthermore, for Heinze to call the protesters "negative" is a slap in the face to GLBT people who fight against injustice everywhere. If he expects me to sit back and not be "negative" when members of my community are being discriminated, he's terribly, terribly mistaken.

"Trans-erasure" "Gay Supremacist" Gay misogyny? Am I being melodramatic? Well lets go to gay blogs that have picked up this story who have published a empathetic view....

Silence.

That's not for a lack of trying. I tried to get gay blogs to speak about this when it the story first broke.

And more recently so has Dan Gonzales:

Silence.

And once again...

If we are to win this battle for equality we must be willing to conduct painful introspection and open, civil dialogue. Without it we stop recovering from the Barney Frank era and splinter once again. There is no LGB without the T.

Woman who claimed Nebraska Medical Center denied her treatment has taken Hir post down

Mika Covington is a genderqueer who prefers the pronouns sie and hir. Sie lives with end stage (stage 5) Nephropathic Cystinosis which affects approximately 1 in 100,000 to 200,000 newborns. There are only around 2,000 known individuals with cystinosis in the world.

Mika had alledged in a blog post tha sie has since removed, that the University of Nebraska Medical Center had refused to perform a kidney transplant after learning of Mika's transgender status.

Mika Covington has since messsaged me via facebook that sie is concerned about possible legal actions and therefore has taken hir blog post down.

This leaves me without an unattributable article and in a very bad position. I will leave this post up with the statement I received from the Nebraska Medical center and will update it as necessary.

Update 11/13/2013. Mika Covington messaged me regarding my taking down the planetransgender post down:

" I still stand by what I said in my post. But, I would point out that no where in my post did I state the University explicitly denied on basis of gender identity or political party preference/identification. Nevertheless, I did include in my post that I had issues because of being gender identity and political party preference/identification. In addition, I must state that I never gave Queerty or the Daily Kos to do a story on my Cystinosis and gender identity."
"Thank you again for writing a post on what was said in my blog."

Update 10:46 PM CT

Taylor Wilson, Senior Media Relations Coordinator at the Nebraska Medical Center has emailed me with this statement:

"We have performed thousands of transplants over the last 40 years. Patients are never rejected based on gender, race or religion. EVER. Organ transplant is highly regulated by the government and politics is never part of the discussion. Without consent from the patient, we can't comment specifically about this case. However, we can say that each prospective transplant recipient has to attend appointments on a regular basis and complete a variety of tests before being eligible for transplant. We want to make sure each patient takes the utmost care of the gift of life they're being given, both immediately after the transplant and for years to come."

"Our institution is filled with talented, caring individuals who strive to provide the highest quality care to everyone. We provide care to the sickest of the sick and often become a place of refuge when other bigger-name centers have turned them down. One of our recent transplant patients may have said it best in this video:"

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Taylor Wilson
Senior Media Relations Coordinator
The Nebraska Medical Center

Mr. Wilson said they have not received the needed consent form from Mika they need to address this case specifically he wanted to respond in general to this blog post.

Mika has tweeted a number of time sie has emailed the Nebraska Medical center but has yet to receive the consent form.

Breaking: Group claims to have enough signatures to force a vote on Ca student Transgender rights

The political strategist who is coordinating the fight against AB 1266 has told the AP they have collected enough signatures to force a referendum.

AP: Opponents of a new California law that gives transgender students certain rights say they have collected enough signatures for an initiative that could repeal the law.

Frank Schubert, the political strategist handling the signature gathering effort for conservative groups, said Sunday that the group submitted 620,000 signatures to get the initiative on the November 2014 ballot. To qualify, at least 505,000 valid signatures must be submitted.

If there have been enough signatures collected as Schubert claims a qualification process must validate those signatures. There is no mention of this on the central hate groups web page.
